A Course in Miracles:  Lesson 301

“What is the second coming?”   This question is the foundation of the next ten lessons.  It is one of the most significant questions in Christian thought.  A Course in Miracles waits until the 301st lesson to address it because all the prior lessons lead up to the answer, which is both simple and profound.

The “second coming” has no significant leader, and it involves no church or institution of any kind.  The “second coming” involves no judgment or retribution.  No one is cast off or punished.  Indeed such thinking is antithetical to its arrival.

The “second coming” is nothing more than the correction of a mistake and the return of sanity.  It is the moment in which humankind realizes its own oneness with each other, all things, and its Source.  It is the moment in which forgiveness is extended without exception and without reserve.  This is why our function here is to learn forgiveness.  Repeat, this is why our ONLY function here is to learn forgiveness.

We are assisted all along the way in the lesson of forgiveness.  We need to be.  The illusion of separation is deeply embedded in our psyches.  But our understanding is inevitable.   Forgiveness is simply the realization that no event, no circumstance, no word spoken now, in the past, or in the future, can lie outside the mind of God.  Nothing is outside It and to hold any judgment whatsoever is to be in opposition to God Itself.

Today’s lesson is:  “And God Himself shall wipe away all tears.”  This is a metaphor for forgiveness.  Unless I judge I cannot set myself apart.  Unless I judge, I cannot know judgment of myself.  This world is a shared experience and a shared creation.  Do not judge the world today.   See it with the eyes of God.  Do you think this is impossible?  If so, you must still be in doubt about who you are.

In Hinduism:  “The truth is that you are always united with the Lord.  But you must know this.  Nothing further is there to know.”  In Christianity:  “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word was God.”   In Eastern thought:  “The Tao is everything.”  In Arabic:  “Tawid is the oneness of God.”  The knowing of Oneness is universal.

You are the second coming.  I am with you in its arrival.  We are on the path together and its end is inevitable because separation from Source is illusion.  Let us help each other see that all suffering is but a temporary insanity.  The truth is:  “Nothing real can be threatened.  Nothing unreal exists.  Herein lies the peace of God.”
