A Course in Miracles:  Lesson 202

The coherent thought in today’s idea is the same as yesterday’s:  “I am not a body.  I am free.  For I am still as God created me”.  There is great refuge in this thought. But more importantly, it contains a frequency of truth that will make sense to all but those most vested in this world.

We more easily reach the truth of this first idea by practicing the second, which is, “I will be still an instant and go home.”   What is an “instant” and where is “home”?   The “instant” is a moment of peace and clarity, and “home” is recognized more by a feeling, or a knowing, than it is a physical place.

Have you had the experience of not wanting to awaken from a dream?  Dreams are not physical experiences, but they are feeling experiences, or knowing experiences.  They often feel more like “home” than the world of awake time.  ACIM says this is because “the world you seem to live in is not your home.  And somewhere in your mind you know that this is true.”

Today’s practice asks us to “be still an instant and go home. “   We do this simply by taking many moments today to stop, close our eyes, and go inward.  This is all it takes to leave this world and it will serve us well to let it go often today.  This world isn’t real, but you’ll never know it if you accept it without question.

Practice in this way:  every hour, on the hour, repeat the coherent thought for the day.  On each half hour, repeat the second idea.  If you can do this, it will be a major step.  If you cannot, forgive yourself and learn forgiveness.  But keep the ideas in your mind.  You won’t learn the lesson if you just go to sleep all day and think you can forgive yourself just before bedtime.

Give yourself also the gift of 15 minutes in the morning and evening for quiet contemplation of today’s ideas.  Take your seat and relax the body.  Close your eyes and place gentle awareness on the breath.  Relax more deeply with each exhale.  Let everything go.  When you are ready, say in your mind:

“I am not a body.  I am free.  For I am still as God created me”.

“I will be still an instant and go home.”

“I am not a body.  I am free.  For I am still as God created me”.

Feel the meaning within the words as you say them slowly and purposefully.  Their meaning contains a hidden frequency that will inform your mind of a truth long forgotten.  Allow it to sink in.  Then simply sit in quiet as you watch the breath.

Free your mind of all thought except the breath.  Feel your heart area rise and fall.  Breathe in through the heart and exhale through the heart.  Feel the lightness of the air enter the heart and let everything go on the exhale.  Find the stillness within the breath.  If thoughts arise, notice them and let them go.  If feelings arise, notice them and let them go.  Don’t force anything.  Don’t push anything down or judge it.  Source is sending you all you need.  Your only job is to have the experience in silent watchfulness.

Remember to try to repeat the coherent thought and the day’s idea each hour and half hour.  You can set your watch or your cell phone as a reminder.  This practice will change your day – if you allow it.  Just do your best and be happy.

Enjoy, dear reader.  Many blessings to you.
