A Course in Miracles: Lesson 341
We will get to today’s lesson shortly. It is a beautiful lesson and one that should ground us all in the sureness of our own safety. But first we turn briefly to a discussion of miracles. What exactly is a miracle? The answer might surprise you.
A miracle is a natural expression of love. It is a learning device that undoes the ego’s error of perception. Miracles are born of forgiveness and faith. A mind that allows faith is ready to receive what it cannot understand and does not see. Miracles contain the gift of grace and illustrate the law of truth– that giving and receiving are one. Miracles are like water. Where they fall life grows and what was dry and barren becomes green again. A miracle is never lost. It touches people you may never meet and produces undreamed of changes in situations of which you are not even aware. Miracles happen all the time. If you will allow it, you will experience one today.
Today’s lesson realized will itself be a miracle for you. This lesson learned healing beyond any medicine. It is this:
“I can attack but my own sinlessness,
And it is only that which keeps me safe.”
This lesson tells us two simple things. First, there is no one who has ever separated him or her self from God. Only in the dream is it possible to even consider this a reality. I cannot lose my self! It is a logical impossibility to exist in a state outside All That Is. Sin is belief in separation and it is a big fat lie. You know you are in the dream if you see anyone and believe they are not joined with you in God.
Second, the only thing I can ever truly attack is my self, and when I attack a brother, I attack my self. I do so when I believe the dream is real. Yet even my attack occurs only in the dream. In truth, I cannot attack myself, but I can dream it. In truth, I am never not safe.
We are the Word of God made manifest. The Word is and will always be. We are never, ever truly threatened. How can the Thought of God be diseased, shot with a gun, told she is no good, denied what is rightfully his, or made less than? The miracle is knowing this. The miracle ends the attack against my self. The miracle is sees beyond the physical and forgives its false message through the courage of faith.
This is your service here – to receive what you cannot understand and do not see. We are all in service. We are called to it. We are safe through its fulfilling. There are miracles all around. Can you see them?
